The Czech Society for Spine Surgery is part of the Czech Medical Society of Jan Evangelista Purkyně. It was founded in 1999 as an association of neurosurgeons, orthopedists, and traumatologists dedicated to the surgical treatment of spinal and spinal cord injuries and diseases.
The Society guarantees specialization in the field through continuing education, organizing courses, and regular annual congresses. The importance of the discipline has been supported by establishing spine surgery as an advanced specialization, culminating in a certification exam.
Throughout its existence, the Society has succeeded in unifying the concept of the field and has proposed and defended a network of healthcare services for spinal patients. High-quality primary spinal care is provided by Centers of Highly Specialized Care, guaranteed by the Society.
Care for patients with spinal cord injuries is provided by Spinal Units, which are followed by comprehensive spa treatment in selected institutes.
